Well I’ve never seen one ....

You didn’t miss out on anything.

What's this?

It can't be any worse than the 2001-2012 Escape

93-96 Ford Maverick? Wikipedia tells me it’s a rebadged Nissan Terrano II.

Dropped when Ford bought Land Rover and not replaced when LR were sold off. Ford Europe don’t have any 4wds now.

Ah. Interesting.

A Polish friend had one (3 door) in the same colour here in the U.K. When describing it to anyone he always had to add ‘like a Nissan Terrano but with a Ford badge’. It got boring fast. It had no problem driving from the Scottish border to Poland and back. 90mph+ was an experience of trying to get the radio loud enough to mask the noise from the car (wind, engine and vibration) but not too loud it hurt your ears but the car kept up with 2.0 Audi A4 with us driven by the brother no problem.
Just wish the Polish friend’s new English wife was more bearable (it was a short marriage).

There’s the Kuga, which doesn’t count, and the Ranger.

Are the Kuga and Edge not? I genuinely don’t know. The Ranger must have a 4WD option, but that's a commercial vehicle I guess.

The Ranger’s a pick up though. The market for traditional 4wds like the Terrano/Maverick has gone away.

They’re not the same though are they? They’re strictly onroad vehicles, the Maverick was intended for at least some hard work.

Ah the Maverick. Absolutely one of the worst cars I’ve ever driven. Not because it was awful, but because all of the back seat passengers felt very ill after only 20 minutes of driving. The rear suspension is very soft and floaty, while the front feels brick hard. Not conducive to a nice drive!

This may be why I haven’t seen one in a long time.

I suspect it that people who need the capability also want something classed as a commercial vehicle for various tax reasons. My Landlord has the Van version of the Terrano, often complete with string, Dog and a plant trailer. Lots of utility service Defenders around too, although they have started to use pickups now.
People who just want something high riding and the off road appearance go for the softer options as they are easier to live with.

Well, Ford DOES have a new Everest based on the T6 Ranger.

If I recall correctly you can still get AWD on numerous models but no off-roaders (of which Ford hasn’t made many in the first place).

I genuinely don’t know much about the Kuga and the Edge. Hell, I didn’t know we sold the Edge till I looked on the Ford U.K. Website the other month but ye’, I guess they aren’t so much off roaders as soft roaders.

They’re probably all miserable.
